If you want to make a good impression at a ball, you have to know how to waltz.
The waltz is a simple, elegant ballroom dance that is often danced with a partner.
There are two dancers in the waltz, each the "lead" - usually the man. And the "follow"-the woman.
To be able to dance the waltz, you need to be precise with the steps, and if you don't know the waltz yet, you will be able to after these instructions!

STARTING POSITION:

The starting position is you and your partner about one shoulder apart. As a follow you have to put your left hand on the left shoulder of the lead. And if you are the lead, you put your left hand on the left shoulder blade of the follow.

STEP 1.
As the leader, move your left foot forward. From now on you will always take the lead and your follow will follow you, your starting foot will always be on the left. Tip: Bend your knees a little so that your movements are almost silent. When you are the follow, step back a little with your right foot. Let your leader guide you, and from now on start all your movements with your right foot. Try to make all your movements elegant.

REPETITION
Now repeat these steps in the order shown in the next step, remember: As a leader you always start with the left foot, so: left-right-left-right. As a follow you always start with the right foot so: right-left-right-left. In other words, when the follow moves the left foot, the leader moves the right foot and vice versa.

STEP 2.
From now on the leader should always count in 3-count tempo. At "1" the leader's left foot goes forward, the follow's right foot goes backward. At "2" the leader's left foot goes to the left side and the follow's right foot goes to the right side. At "3" both feet return to the starting position. (Both feet next to each other.)

Now that you have the basic steps, try these steps with a 3 count tempo song. Once you have it down you can learn the more advanced steps.

ADVANCED STEPS

MOVE IN A CIRCLE

Depending on your preference, you can do the circular movement with a ¼ to ¾ turn. To move in a circle, you perform the first two basic steps.then the leader places his left foot to move back to step three. the follower places his right foot in the same direction. This allows you to turn slightly as you waltz.
TIP

The turnwill always happen on the LEFT side of the lead. Try to move gently to the left, following the steps.

THE TURN AROUND YOUR UNDERARM

Dance the first three basic steps. Next step, the leader releases his right hand from the follow's left hand. The lead now raises his left hand and turns the follow clockwise. As the follow turns, the lead should repeat the three basic steps once. The follow should not complete the turn until the lead has repeated all the basic steps once. Tip: Count to six at a time and the lead should keep the basic steps small.
