Hello and welcome back to our weekly blog where twice a week we get a new blog article to embark on a new adventure through history.

In the last article we had seen the art from the amazing William Scrots, in this article we have a new art gallery to see (Drumroll please)

And our next artist is… Levina Teerlinc.

A bit about the artist

Levina Teerlinc was born in Bruges, Flanders. (Which is now a part of Belgium) in 1510, and she is one of five daughters. She married George Teerlinc and soon they made their way to England, where it was documented that she was there by 1546.

Levina Teerlinc was a court painter in the Tudor courts, she served Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, where she received a salary until her death in 1576.

Levina Teerlinc was the only female painter in the court of Henry VIII, and she event worked under Catherine Parr alongside Susannah Hornebolt and Margaret Holsewyther.

Levina Teerlinc was appointed tutor in painting to the king’s daughter in the Spanish court in 1559, and she passed away in Stephney, London on June 23rd, 1576.
