Hello, and welcome back to our weekly blog, where twice a week we get a new blog article to let us embark on a new adventure through history.

In the last article, we saw the art gallery of the one and only: Hans Holbein the Younger, and in this article, we will have…(Drumrolls please) Hans Eworth!

A bit about the artist

Hans Eworth was a Flemish painter who made a career in Tudor London. It is said that about forty paintings are attributed to Hans Eworth.

By 1545, like most artists in the Tudor courts Hans Eworth was also working on a decorative work and it is said that Hans Eworth was involved in the set design for a masque that was given by Elizabeth I that was in honor of the French ambassador in 1572.

Unfortunately, It was said that Hans Eworth had passed in 1574.

Onto the art gallery

It is said that Hans Eworth had attributed at least forty paintings.

The first portrait we will be looking at is a portrait of Mary Neville, the portrait was painted in 1555-1556. In the portrait you will find a smaller portrait of Mary Neville’s first husband.

It is said that this portrait may have been the first paiting to be exicuted in England.

The second portrait we will look at is a portrait of James Stewart, Earl of Moray. This particular portrait is of James Stewart’s wedding portrait.

There is not much to say about this portrait other than it was a wedding portrait.

The third portrait we will look at today is of Margaret Audley, Duchess of Norfolk, also known as Margaret Howard, Duchess of Norfolk. This portrait was painted in 1562.

This painting was painted in 1562, it was a portrait of Margaret Audley, who was the sole surviving child of Thomas Audley, 1st Baron Audley of Walden, and Elizabeth Grey.

The final portrait we are going to look at is a portrait of Anne Askew, and this portrait was painted in 1560.

Anne Askew was an English writer, poet and protestant preacher who was condemmed as a heretic during the reign of Henry VIII of England.

The End of Today’s Article

Though there were many artworks by Hans Eworth, the art that he did was also just as amazing. I think we can all honestly say that Hans Eworth was a very talented artist whose art will last for many centuries.   This will bring us to the end of our art galleries, but I leave you with these questions, which art gallery was your favorite? and why? and which painting was your favorite? Send a letter to Georgia Clearless answering this question and you will recieve a prize.
